Featured Charity – Make-A-Wish Foundation

We are thrilled to announce that Taste of Brews is collaborating with Make-A-Wish Foundation: Orange County & the Inland Empire Chapter for our 2nd Annual Twilight Tasting event!

Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Orange County & the Inland Empire chapter was established in 1983. Make-A-Wish OC & IE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that reaches out to children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 18 that live in Orange County, San Bernadino & Riverside. This chapter first began by fulfilling a 14 year old girl named Tamra’s wish to see the crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean. Ever since Tamra’s wish was granted, the Orange County and Inland Empire chapter has made over 5,000 other children, with life threatening medical conditions, wishes come true.

This amazing non-profit has granted more than 240,000 wishes for children in the United States and its territories. Also, “Make-A-Wish grants a wish, on average, every 38 minutes and, on average, a child is referred for a wish every 28 minutes.” Here are a couple breathtaking wishes that have been granted by the Orange County and Inland Empire chapter.

Katie, 18, was diagnosed with kidney cancer and wished to New York during the holiday season. Once she was well enough, she was able to travel to the city that never sleeps, during the time where it is filled with beautiful lights and holiday cheer. Katie was able to experience many different things in New York such as the going to see a show on Broadway and visiting the Statue of Liberty, but most importantly be able to kindle her passion for fashion with New York’s infamous shopping.

Jorge, 5, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, which a rare form of cancer of the eye. His wish was to join the ranks of the Marines. Make-A-Wish and everyone over at Camp Pendleton joined together to make Jorge’s wish come true. He was sworn in as the general for the day and everyone obeyed is every order. He also got the chance to ride in assault vehicles, take Marine Corps boxing lesson, and fly a helicopter simulator. Jorge’s excitement, happiness, and energy effected every single person involved in making his wish come true that day.

Both of these wishes, along with the thousands of others that have been fulfilled by the Orange County and Inland Empire Chapter, have not only helped to change the lives of those children that have life threatening medical conditions, but also their family’s lives and all of the lives that they have touched in between. A recent study that was done about the wishes that Make-A-Wish grant, show that: “98% of wish parents felt the wish experience gave them an opportunity to be a “normal”  family again, and 92% of parents saw their children experience re-empowerment to take back the ability to make decisions in their lives.”

Make sure to visit Make-A-Wish Orange County & the Inland Empire at ocie.wish.org for more information about how you can help to make more wished come true and learn about the Make-A-Wish events held throughout the year. Don’t miss the opportunity to raise money for this wonderful charity at our Twilight Tasting on March 7, 2015! Tickets are on sale now!!

Featured Brewery – Firestone Walker

Lions, Bears & Beer…OH MY! firestone-walker

The Firestone Walker Brewing Company was founded in 1996 by Adam Firestone (aka the Bear) and David Walker (aka the Lion), in the Central coast of California, laying its roots in wine county. This once small brewery is now a regional force in the craft beer industry, and every day they strive to constantly bring craft beer to the next level. In the words of Firestone, they are “passionately in pursuit of the perfect beer…and never satisfied.” This driving attitude is reflected within Firestone’s achievements in 2014.

One of their seasonal beers, Easy Jack, a summer session IPA, was voted one as one of the 20 best beers of 2014 by “Paste Magazine.” Sailing onto the top 20 list, this session IPA was, hands down, one of the best out of the many session IPAs that were introduced in 2014. Brewmaster Matt Brynildson wanted to create a different kind of session IPA that had a signature malt balance, enormous hop aromas with hop varieties from all around the world, and most importantly leave you with an empty glass before you even know it. You can definitely look forward to even more of the delicious Easy Jack in 2015!

A second great achievement for Firestone Walker in 2014 would be Pivo winning the gold at the Great American Beer Festival two years in a row! This traditional German style pilsner has a hoppy Bohemian twist and gentile malt flavors. The “refreshing, light-bodied and hop-driven Pils”, with its perfect balance, will have you coming back for more.

Visit the Firestone Walker Brewing Company at http://www.firestonebeer.com to learn more about these award winning beers and the many more delicious, and refreshing, craft beers they have to offer. Also, look for them in your local store!

Come visit Firestone Walker at the 2nd annual Twilight Tasting event on March 7, 2015. Tickets are on sale now! Don’t miss out on tasting these refreshing, next level, craft beers!

Featured Charity – The Little Red Dog

We are excited to announce that Taste of Brews and The Little Red Dog have recently teamed up for the 2nd annual Twilight Tasting event, to help spread awareness among all craft beer and wine lovers out there about the importance of rescuing, in hopes of providing support, and possibly forever homes to those animals in need!
The Little Red Dog is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that was founded in 2011 by PJ Rosch and Steve McClain. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of the Little Red American Pit Bull Terrier, and all of the other lost dogs, that were part of the Michael Vick trial. This foster based rescue aims to end prejudice against the American Pit Bull Terrier, breed discrimination and, most importantly, provide loving, forever homes to all dogs.

Their motto is, “We Are On A Mission From Dog” and this seems to go without saying. The Little Red Dog team works hard to constantly rescue those dogs in need, saving many lives from abusive situations and kill shelters all around Southern California.
There are many ways in which you can help support The Little Red Dog. You can apply to be a foster for their sweet dogs in need, apply to be a volunteer for the rescue, or make a donation. They also have an online store where everything that is purchased will go towards funding food and care for their rescued pooches, and may even help to save more lives.

This is Davey, a one year old German Shepherd/Chihuahua mix, who was rescued from the Devore animal shelter. He is a sweet boy who is good with kids, dogs, and cats, and all he wants is to be loved. Davey is only one of many dogs that are in need of a forever home. The Little Red Dog is holding their next adoption event Saturday December 13, 2014, at the PetSmart in Lake Forest, starting at 11:00am! In the name of Christmas cheer head out to the adoption event this Saturday to help save a life and possibly meet your next best friend!
Visit The Little Red Dog at http://www.thelittlereddog.com to learn more about ways in which you can help them keep their goal alive and save the lives of the loving dogs in need all around Southern California.

Featured Brewery- Lagunitas

We are excited to talk about our featured beer of the week, Lagunitas!

Lagunitas Brewing Company is currently located in Petaluma, California and Chicago, Illinois brewing their one of a kind beers.

Right now two of their popular seasonal beers are out on the market ready for you to try!

First, there’s the Brown Shugga Ale, or as Lagunitas knows it as their ‘accident beer.’ Lagunitas said the beer was, “Originally a failed attempt at our 1997 batch of Olde Gnarly Wine Ale resulting in an all-new-beer-style we like to call… Irresponsible.” The beer consists of brown cane sugar, malt, and hops. It’s only available from November to January, so get it now!

The Hairy Eyeball is another seasonal fan favorite. This rich, thick, chocolaty (and dangerous) beer is just what you need to cure a hangover… or to create one. Lagunitas jokes that this beer is, “especially formulated for when you wake up feelin’ like you need to shave your eyeballs to see the new day.” I’d say that sounds pretty tempting!” This beer will be gone by the end of December so buy it now and drink up.
